Wildlife Holiday Planning Glossary: The Terms Worth Clarifying

Private, shared and tailor-made

Private should identify the relevant service, such as the road vehicle or safari jeep. Shared describes an activity with other travellers, while tailor-made describes a plan shaped through discussion. These terms do not automatically establish one another. Ask which applies to each part of your holiday and whether the quoted arrangement matches your preference.

Included, optional and subject to availability

Included should identify a service within the accepted price. An optional activity is a choice to discuss, with its cost and practical arrangement confirmed separately. Subject to availability means a component still needs confirmation. Ask what happens if it cannot be reserved and whether an alternative would change the itinerary or quotation.

Driver, guide, room category and meal plan

These terms deserve specific descriptions in the proposal. Clarify who provides interpretation, which accommodation category is reserved and what meals are covered by date. A brief explanation can prevent a large misunderstanding. Keep the final wording with the itinerary you approve rather than relying on assumptions made during an early planning conversation.

Your next planning steps.

• Define private or shared for each actual service.
• Separate included items from optional or unconfirmed ones.
• Ask for plain descriptions of guiding, rooms and meals.

For the next planning step, compare tailor-made holidays in Sri Lanka and individual safari experiences. Individual products and activities retain their own scope and booking conditions.
